North Dallas, Spring Creek and McKinney are car-first suburbs; our McKinney description points to US-75 and SH-121 as the main routes to Plano, downtown Dallas and the airport.
Arlington works differently. It is outside the DART system, so plan on driving or using Arlington On-Demand, the city's shared rideshare service. It covers the whole city and links to the CentrePort/DFW Airport station on the Trinity Railway Express (TRE), the commuter line between downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. When to visit: the Dallas calendar
Fall is the busiest stretch for event travel. The State Fair of Texas runs for 24 days at Fair Park each autumn, and football season fills AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Cowboys weekends. The Texas Rangers play at Globe Life Field, in the same Entertainment District, through the spring and summer. If your trip lines up with a home game or a stadium concert, book Arlington early.
For work travel, the calendar matters less than the location.
