Getting around Chicago from River North

Chicago has two major airports, and both are on the 'L'. The CTA Blue Line runs 24 hours a day between O'Hare and downtown; Choose Chicago puts the ride at about 40 minutes. The Orange Line runs from Midway to the Loop in about 25 minutes. From either line, a transfer in the Loop gets you to River North. From the Blue Line, for example, you can change at Clark/Lake for the Brown Line to Merchandise Mart or Chicago/Franklin.

Once you are here, you probably won't need a car. Four 'L' stations serve River North: Grand and Chicago on the Red Line, which runs 24 hours between Howard on the North Side and 95th/Dan Ryan on the South Side, and Chicago/Franklin and Merchandise Mart on the Brown and Purple Lines. The property description puts the Magnificent Mile, the Riverwalk and the Merchandise Mart minutes away. For everything else, buses, Divvy bikes and rideshare fill the gaps, and a Ventra card covers trains and buses.

Parking at our River North building is paid and off the property. If you are driving in for a longer stay, factor that into the budget, or plan to park the car for the length of the trip.

When to visit: Chicago's calendar

Summer is Chicago's high season, and a handful of events set the busiest weeks. Lollapalooza takes over Grant Park for four days each summer. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon runs on the second Sunday of October.

Conventions and trade shows

Chicago's two big exhibition venues are on opposite sides of downtown. theMART, home of NeoCon, is on the river at the edge of River North, and the property description puts it minutes from our building. McCormick Place, the city's convention center, is on the Near South Side and hosts shows such as the Chicago Auto Show in February.

From River North, McCormick Place is an easy trip without a car. The CTA's #3 King Drive bus runs along Michigan Avenue, including the Magnificent Mile, to the McCormick Place campus. By rail, the Green Line stops at Cermak-McCormick Place, west of the campus, and the Metra Electric line has a station inside the McCormick Place Grand Concourse. For exhibitors and crews staying a week or more, a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and a washer and dryer is easier to share than two hotel rooms.
